Installing SAND CDBMS for UNIX

To begin installing SAND CDBMS software from CD-ROM onto a UNIX sys
tem, first log in to the system as "root". Then change directory to the SAND CDBMS CD-ROM root directory or the directory where the SAND CDBMS install files reside, and mount the CD-ROM as follows (devices may vary):

HP-UX
mount -r /dev/dsk/c1t2d0 /cdrom

Solaris
mount -o ro -f hsfs /dev/dsk/c1t6d0s0 /mnt

AIX
use smit to mount the CD-ROM

Red Hat Linux
mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom

SuSE Linux
mount /dev/cdrom /mnt

Then execute the following command:

./installnucleus

The install process takes you through the following steps:

  1. When prompted for the SAND CDBMS install directory, enter the desired location of the SAND CDBMS executable files, or press <Enter> to accept the default (/usr/sand). If a previous release of SAND CDBMS has been installed, you can install the latest version of SAND CDBMS over it.
  2. When prompted for the SAND CDBMS administrator user name, enter the name of a valid user on the system. This user will be given ownership of the SAND CDBMS program files.
  3. When prompted for SAND CDBMS administrator group, enter the name of the group to which the users who will run the nserv (database server) program belong. If the group name is invalid or is not stored on the local system, you will be asked if you want enter another group name. If the group account is stored on a remote system, continue with the install.
  4. When prompted, specify whether the Octopus workload management utility should be set to run as a daemon. For more information about the Octopus daemon, consult the Octopus Administrator's Guide.
  5. The selected configuration settings are displayed. At the prompt, enter Y to confirm the settings, or N to abort the installation.
  6. You will then be given the option to install the SAND Enterprise Service (see below). If this option is not chosen, the installation is complete.

Note:
The SAND CDBMS reference ("man") pages are installed in the appropriate directories during setup. They can be added to the whatis database with the following command:

catman -w

This will recreate the whatis database without reformatting the reference pages.
