Installing SAND CDBMS for UNIX

Installing the SAND Enterprise Service

During the installation of SAND CDBMS, you will be given the option to install the SAND Enterprise Service (SES). SES provides the ability to remotely administer multiple SAND databases on the server machine (for more information, consult the SAND Enterprise Service (SES) section of this document. Before installing the SAND Enterprise Service, the 32-bit Java Runtime Environment (version 1.4.2 for Linux and 1.3.1 for all other operating systems) must be installed on the host computer. Java installer files are located in the java directory of the installation CD-ROM. If there are any SES processes already running, they must be stopped before installing this version. We recommend that you remove any other versions of SES before installing this one.

  1. When prompted for the SAND CDBMS SUPPORT directory, enter the location of the SAND CDBMS executable files and nucleus.ini file, or press <Enter> to accept the default (/usr/sand).
  2. When prompted, enter the location of the Java runtime support directory. A default location is provided.
  3. When prompted for the NES server administrator, enter the name of a valid user on the system. (Note that the user name cannot be 'root'.) If the user name is invalid or is not stored on the local system, you will be asked if you want enter another user name. If the user account is stored on a remote system, continue with the install. No default is provided.
  4. When prompted for the default directory for browsing databases, enter the location of the start directory for remote browsing via SAND Enterprise Manager or press <Enter> to accept the default.
  5. When prompted for port number, enter the port number that SAND Enterprise Manager will use to connect to the SAND Enterprise Service or press <Enter> to accept the default.

Note:
To install SES separately from SAND CDBMS, log in as "root", change directory to the SAND CDBMS CD-ROM root directory or the directory where the SAND CDBMS install files reside. Execute the following command to run the SES install script:

./installses
