SAND/DNA Compress and SAND/DNA Enhance Enable Significant Cost Savings while Increasing the Business Value of Historical Dat

MONTREAL—June 18, 2007—SAND Technology Inc. (OTCBB: SNDTF.OB), an international provider of intelligent enterprise information management software, today announced the general availability of two new products, SAND/DNA Compress and SAND/DNA Enhance. These two products, both based on SAND’s patent-pending SAND/DNA Access technology, are designed to offer customers extremely cost-effective ways of optimizing the storage and use of massive amounts of historical data.

Each of these new products allows for infrequently used data to be moved out of the main data warehouse, improving warehouse performance and enabling satisfaction of service level agreements (SLAs) while keeping administration requirements to a minimum. SAND/DNA Compress collects high-volume data feeds (including web logs, email logs, system logs, network logs, application logs, Call Detail Record data) and compresses the data by up to 98%, enabling huge savings on storage. SAND/DNA Enhance performs the same type of data compression while also adding analytic value to the data by enriching it with demographic information.

With the introduction of these new products, organizations can now implement the precise functionality they need to solve their specific business problems. SAND/DNA Compress provides outstanding data compression with immediate cost savings where the need is simply to reduce the data storage footprint. If the organization wants the compressed data to be made ready for analytical use, SAND/DNA Enhance is the appropriate choice. Should business requirements dictate, either of these products can be easily upgraded to the full SAND/DNA Access product to allow direct querying of compressed data without the need to decompress it first. In this way, SAND ensures that customers can keep their total cost of ownership to a minimum by purchasing only the product that they need while maintaining an economical upgrade path.

Specific features of SAND/DNA Compress include:

  • Very small data footprint
  • Compressed files are self-defining – no need to maintain external catalog structures
  • Original data files can be reproduced and used to feed any ETL process or database, or used for audit purposes.

Specific features of SAND/DNA Enhance include:

  • Very small data footprint
  • Compressed files are self-defining – no need to maintain external catalog structures
  • Historical data is enriched with demographic data
  • Adapts to deal with issues of slowly changing dimensions, such as reassignment of IP addresses
  • The compressed and enriched data files can be used to feed any ETL process or database.

“Organizations everywhere are facing massive increases in the volumes of data they need to manage,” said Linda Arens, SAND’s vice president of marketing and alliances. “However, requirements for storing and using this data are not always the same. In response to requests from customers for simple compression functionality, with an option for analytic enhancement, we have introduced the SAND/DNA Compress and SAND/DNA Enhance products to enable them to store these huge amounts of data in the format that best fits their needs, so they can keep costs at a minimum while maintaining the performance of their data warehouses.”
