SAND CDBMS Empowers Researchers at the Centre hospitalier universitaire de Sherbrooke

The Centre de Recherche Clinique was founded 20 years ago to develop clinical research within the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Sherbrooke (CRC-CHUS). Researchers conduct research into Immuno-inflammation, Oncology, Cardiovascular Pharmacology, Digestive Physiopathology, Endocrine Physio-pathology, Osteo-articular Physio-pathology, Pulmonary Physio-pathology, Radiology, Telemedicine and Clinical & Evaluative Research.

SAND now allows researchers to ask questions of the data that were practically impossible before, and in particular allows clinical data and medical notes to be queried at the same time. Users of the system were shocked at first, then delighted. Now a couple of hours of ad hoc querying can provide answers to questions that previously would have required months of archival research.

>“SAND offers us something we have not been able to find until now: a powerful, secure platform for exploring patient data that can be maintained with minimal help from the IT department.” – Fabien de Lorenzi, Associate Director of Research, CHUS
