Temporary File

The database temporary file (not to be confused with the temporary Delta File used in Virtual mode operations) is used for storing temporary records produced during database operations. Since these temporary records do not take up space in the database files, the database growth that occurs during some SAND CDBMS operations can be substantially reduced.

The location and maximum size of the temporary file is set using the nconfig T command. The default location is the current database directory ( . ); the default maximum temporary file size is 4,194,304 MB or 67,108,864 blocks of 64 KB, corresponding to the no limit setting.

Default Configuration

If, in the course of configuring a new database, you want to start anew by returning to the default database configuration, enter the letter 'D' at the command prompt to execute the Default Configuration command. nconfig will display a confirmation prompt: type Y and press <Enter> to confirm that you wish to return to the default configuration. Once confirmed, the previous database configuration is overwritten and is irretrievable, so caution should be exercised when using this command.
