SAND/DNA Access: How it Works
Data can be loaded into SAND/DNA Access directly from operational systems, or offloaded from the data warehouse via automated processes such as the Nearline interface for SAP BI in accordance with organizational policies concerning aged and less frequently used data.
Users can then access the resulting compressed data files transparently using standard query tools. When SAND/DNA data is accessed, only the required data is delivered to the user, ensuring performance very similar to that provided by the online warehouse and minimizing use of valuable infrastructure bandwidth.
Because SAND/DNA Access gets to “100% indexed” data in its compressed form, it only needs to decompress the precise data set that is requested. As a result, the amount of I/O work required to make data available to applications is reduced by between 250 - 1000 times (or more) compared to other methods – bringing a significant boost in performance and a much more efficient use of production resources.
