Designed to relieve SAP NetWeaver BI 7.0 from the need to keep large amounts of infrequently used data in the online repository, SAND/DNA solution stores this data in a tiny footprint while maintaining easy data accessibility.

Business Challenge
When the decision was made to switch over to the latest version of SAP NetWeaver BI (7.0) in the summer of 2005, Volkswagen Financial Services AG estimated that its data volumes would increase from around two terabytes in January 2005 to 10 terabytes in May 2007. For this reason, they began searching for a solution that would allow data to be removed from the system without deleting it permanently.
SAND/DNA Solution
The SAND/DNA nearline solution for SAP NetWeaver BI 7.0 was chosen because of its ability to compress data by an average of around 90 percent while still keeping it available for use in analysis or as the basis for new DataStore Objects (DSOs) or InfoCubes.
Thanks to the extremely high compression offered by SAND/DNA, they are seeing a very positive return on investment with this solution, and are extremely satisfied with the product itself and convinced of the potential it has to offer. Their plans call for another five terabytes of data to be removed from the database into compressed nearline storage over the next three years.
