Physicians Mutual Insurance Company (PMIC) has over $3.5 billion in life insurance in force, and a variety of products.

Business Challenge

PMIC's Finance Department had a pressing need to analyze Product Performance monitoring data to support critical decisions regarding pricing, product design, and marketing. However, data accessibility was severely limited on the existing system: it could take anywhere from 5 to 30 days to return answers to analytic queries. The indexing capability of the traditional relational database was unable to support the kind of complex ad hoc querying that was critical to the project.

SAND/DNA Solution

After PMIC implemented a solution using SAND/DNA, response times for ad hoc queries were reduced to between 1 and 30 minutes. Such a vast improvement in response time means that PMIC's Financial Analysis function can now access information which had been virtually unavailable before.
